Welcome to Heritage Watch
ABOUT US
Heritage Watch operates as a Non-Profit Organization. We have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Linden Museum Stuttgart (in the Federal Republic of Germany) to collaborate on cultural and related museum projects. We continue to forge links with like-minded cultural and developmental organizations across the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC), the African continent at large, and globally. We are particularly keen to collaborate with progressive and like-minded institutions, individuals and communities in the Federal Republic of Germany to develop and cement working relations as well as to share positive cultural experiences that will help to mend the wounds of the past and set us all on a new trajectory of reconciliation, development and prosperity.
OUR VISION
Reconciling our past with the present for a brighter future through a concerted cultural liberation drive.
OUR MISSION
- Rallying Nama, Damara and Baster communities around safeguarding our rich cultural heritage;
- Protecting our spiritual and cultural customs, traditions, language, norms and values;
- Promoting traditional Nama, Damara and Baster art and cultural performances;
- Employing our skills and knowledge for socio-economic development;
- Preserving the rich Nama, Damara and Baster cultural heritage in particular and the diverse Namibian culture in general; emphasizing commonalities and enjoying rich differences;
- Enabling our communities to empower themselves through entrepreneurial-, community- and business development; traditional music and dances; arts and crafts; poetry and drama;
- Supporting and advocating for legislative policies and priorities to advance the interests of marginalized and disadvantaged Nama, Damara and Baster communities.
GOALS
- Rekindle the sense of self-esteem, pride and confidence to liberate our performing arts from backwardness to highly respectable and admirable stage arts;
- Foster positive social transformation and human development through the use of functional and innovative culture (i.e. entertainment education);
- Organize, develop and enable the artistically talented, but socially and historically disadvantaged Nama youth, women and man, to break the vicious cycle of poverty and misfortune and realize their full potential;
